Combined Safari/Coastal Holiday

Day 1

Arrive Jomo Kenyatta Airport, Nairobi, late evening. You will be met by your personal driver/ guide and taken to your Nairobi city hotel.

Day 2

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast your driver will collect you from your hotel and you will travel onward towards The Aberdare Mountains to your destination at The Aberdare Country Club. After lunch at the club you will be taken to The Ark, a magnificent wooden lodge in the heart of The Aberdare Mountains where you will spend the night.

The Ark is famous as a viewing lodge where the animals come to you. Around the water hole you will see elephants, buffalo, antelope, hyena, giant forest hogs, rhino and may be lucky enough to also spy a leopard. After dinner at The Ark you will retire for the night but will be given the chance to spend the night game watching, if you want. After breakfast return to The Aberdare Country Club.

Day 3

Your day at the Club can be spent on a wildlife walk, conducted by the local naturalist. During this you will get up close to giraffes, zebras, impalas and other plains animals. There are also many other ways to spent your day. Your accommodation at the club is in individual bungalows which are scattered throughout the grounds.

After a pleasant day at the club you will enjoy a delicious dinner and retire to your bungalow, where the staff will have lit a welcoming fire (you are at a high altitude in The Aberdares and the nights get cold).

Day 4

After breakfast travel to Shaba/Samburu game reserve to arrive in time for lunch. After lunch the afternoon can be spent at leisure. At 4.30 approx. your guide will collect you from the lodge and you will take a game drive through the reserve.

During the drive you will see elephants, giraffe, zebras, lions, and many other game animals. Return to the lodge before dark for pre dinner drinks. After dinner retire to your room for the night.

Day 5

At 6.30 your driver will collect you from your lodge to be taken on an early morning game drive. Shaba/Samburu is renown for the gerunuk, a long necked antelope, sometimes called the giraffe antelope. Also you will spot the tiny dik dik, the smallest antelope in Africa. At 8.30 return to the lodge for a well deserved breakfast, after which you can spend the day at leisure, swimming, reading or strolling through the grounds.

At 4.30 you can take your second drive of the day, maybe going down to the Uaso Ngiro River to see the hippos and crocodiles which spend their day lazing on the river bank. Return to the lodge in time for pre dinner drinks, a shower and once more a memorable dinner.

Day 6

After breakfast you will travel to Nairobi arriving in time for a late lunch. Afternoon to be spent at leisure, maybe some souvenir shopping or just spend the afternoon by the pool.

. You will spend the night in Nairobi ready for an early departure the next morning.

Day 7

After breakfast travel to Amboseli game park to arrive in time for lunch. On the way to Amboseli stop at Namanga, a Maasai town on the Tanzanian border, where you can take a coffee break. After lunch at your lodge the afternoon can be spent at leisure before being collected by your driver for an evening game drive.

Amboseli is rightly famous for its elephants and the evening game drive is the best time to see the herd of hundreds of elephants crossing the plain to spend the night in their favourite spot. Return to your lodge before dark for drinks and dinner.

Day 8

Early morning game drive before breakfast where you will see cheetahs, lions, elephants and all the plains game. Return to lodge for breakfast and day at rest before your evening game drive. Dinner and the night spent at your lodge.

Day 9

After breakfast leave Amboseli and travel across country to Taita/Shimba Hills where you will arrive in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon and night in the Shimba Hills Lodge. You may wish to take an optional game drive or just relax for the afternoon.

Accommodation is on a full board basis except in Nairobi hotels where this will be on a bed and breakfast only basis. During the full period of your safari your tour vehicle will be for your exclusive use and will not be shared by any third party.

All our drivers are qualified wildlife guides and their knowledge of both flora and fauna is second to none.

Day 10

After breakfast drive to the coast. Your accommodation can be in Mombasa, or you may wish to travel a little further north and stay in either Vipingo, Watamu or Malindi. Also the choice of type of accommodation is yours. You may wish to stay in a hotel or a private, fully staffed villa on the beach.

All accommodation can be priced on a daily basis so the length of stay can be anything from two nights to... At the end of your holiday you may wish to either return to UK from Mombasa or return to Nairobi for your onward flight.
